German utility E.ON to focus on renewables

German utility E.ON to focus on renewables

In a rather interesting move announced last week, Germany’s biggest utility E.ON announced that it will “exit the conventional energy market in favour of a new business model based on renewables, intelligent grid systems, energy management and other services.”, so explained in a recent article in Renewable Energy World.

This clearly shows that the business environment for traditional energy companies is changing and they are adapting their business model based on the realities they face.

So moving away from fossil fuels and nuclear power, this is now the boldest step so far and it will be interesting to see what this means. An interesting point to consider is E.ON’s involvement in geothermal district heating projects and efforts in the UK. So hopefully this could also involve an involvement in geothermal activities in other European countries by E.ON.
