A recent radio piece on Canadian national Broadcaster CBC, looked into the huge geothermal potential in Canada and why so far only a handful of projects actually have broken ground.
The 27 minutes episode aired on Nov. 29, 2020 goes in quite some detail talking to a lot of stakeholders and developers in Canada providing some great insights on what has been done, but also what holds development down.
With developments in Saskatchewan (likely the currently frontrunner project, Alberta, British Columbia and ambitions for the Yukon, there clearly is a certain momentum. With its long experience and know-how in the oil sector, Canada and particularly the western provinces are well positioned to develop geothermal be it for power generation or heating.
