The Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF) for East Africa will be conducting a virtual kick-off workshop for the HEAT funding programme on 1 December 2022, 3 PM to 5 PM (EAT). Interested participants may click this link to attend the virtual event.
GRMF HEAT is a new funding programme by the African Union Commission’s Regional Geothermal Coordination Unit (RGCU) focusing on geothermal direct use. We first reported on this initiative earlier this year, but the previously scheduled kick-off webinar had to be rescheduled.
All the information on GRMF HEAT including details on the two-step application process will be provided in the kick-off webinar. The GRMF HEAT website also provides details on the preparation of an Expression of Interest (EOI) that must be submitted by 16 March 2023.
The objective of the GRMF HEAT facility is to encourage public and private investors as well as public and private partnerships to develop geothermal prospects for direct use in Eastern Africa. This will be done by providing grants to Surface Studies to determine the optimal location of exploration wells at the most promising geothermal prospects including the preparation of a feasibility study, as well as Infrastructure upgrades that allow for direct use of geothermal heat.
