According to Aboitiz Power chief operating officer Emmanual Rubio, they are expecting an increase in generation capacity in both the Tiwi and Makban geothermal power plants after the six-year rehabilitation of the steamfields. The rehabilitation project had already commenced last year.
Aboitiz Power, through AP Renewables Inc. (APRI), operates the 458-MW MakBan geothermal site that straddles the provinces of Batangas and Laguna, as well as the 289-MW Tiwi geothermal site in Albay, Bicol Region. Steamfield management is handled by the Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc (PGPC).
In 2018, APRI signed a geothermal resources supply and services agreement (GRSSA) that tasked PGPC with the drilling of 12 new production wells over a six-year period to support steam availability for the power plants and increase generation capacity by 20 percent.
