In a recent news piece by Reuters, “The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $133 million loan to fund a project aimed at improving access to electricity among poor populations in Kenya’s rural areas.”
This is a critical investment since only 33% of Kenya’s population is currently connected to the grid alongside with a lack of constant electric supply that affects then residents and businesses alike.
Reuters also states that the local government aims to increase the supply of electricity by 5,000 MW by 2017 relying heavily on geothermal generation.
“The total cost of the project, which aims to connect at least 314,200 new customers, is estimated at $147 million, with the government contributing $14 million of that.” according to Reuters.
