Attending the ARGeo Conference in Addis Ababa/ Ethiopia

Attending the ARGeo Conference in Addis Ababa/ Ethiopia

Currently, I am based in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia for the African Rift Geothermal Conference. This is my third ARGeo conference that I am attending, so it is exciting to meet old and new friends in the geothermal energy industry here in Africa.

With in excess of 500 participants, it is a great event showcasing the momentum for geothermal development in Africa.

Opened today, the conference was preceded by a number of short courses and the IGA Board Meetings, that I attended.

Having taken over the Presidency of the International Geothermal Association (IGA) yesterday, I had the honour to give a short speech and introduce IGA at the Opening Session.

The next couple days, the ARGeo conference will feature a series of country updates, technical and scientific presentations highlighting a number of development efforts in Africa.

Yesterday at the opening reception, the newly founded Women in Geothermal Africa made a splash and clearly showed an increasing role of women in the geothermal sector, particularly in Kenya.

Over the next few days I will be reporting on a variety of presentations that I will attend.
