The 5.6 MW binary geothermal power plant in the city of Bago in Negros Occidental, Philippines is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This was stated at the 2025 annual report published by First Gen Corp.
In 2024, Exergy was announced as the supplier for the binary system for the Bago geothermal project. The Bago site in Negros Occidental was previously the site of the Northern Negros geothermal power project operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corporation (EDC). The plant was shut down in 2010 due to steam supply issues, and eventually relocated to the Nasulo field in Negros Oriental. The new development aims to make the Bago geothermal field productive again.
In the same financial report, First Gen also reports that commercial operations have been reached for three power plants in the past year – the Palayan Bayan binary plant, the Tanawon geothermal project, and the Mahanagdong binary plant. The company also commissioned 40 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems across its geothermal portfolio, enhancing operational flexibility and integration of variable renewable energy.
The company is also working to increasing its presence in the Indonesian geothermal market with the signing of a partnership with PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti to develop geothermal projects. Between the two partners, a potential 440 MW of capacity can be developed based on their currently held exploration permits.
