Romania’s National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANMR) has granted the city of Oradea in Northwestern Romania, a geothermal exploration license. As reported by Romania Insider, so far only a private company had a license to explore geothermal resources.
With this first license granted to a local municipality, Oradea can now explore geothermal energy resources and apply for funding from the European Union. The license was also a requirement under additional EUR 19 million funding for several smaller geothermal heating plants in a part of Oradea.
The city, located in Northwestern Romania, has a population of around 200,000 and is located close to the Hungarian border, and close to Baile Felix, a thermal spa resort in Sanmartin in Bihor Country.
