Drilling of the Jablonna GT-1 well in the commune of Jablonna in the Masovian Voivodeship in Poland has officially begun as of 12 March 2026. This is the first geothermal well drilled in the territory and will serve to help evaluate the potential for geothermal utilization.
The Jablonna commune has been awarded over PLN 14 million (approx. USD 3.7 million) to drill the exploration well by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW), as announced back in 2024. This is sufficient to fully finance the project.
The exploration well is being drilled near the site of the Municipal Selective Waste Collection Point (GPSZOK) to a target depth of 1850 meters. Multiconsult Polska has been selected as the Project Engineer, and is in charge of geological supervision, sampling, and physicochemical analysis of the thermal waters. Drilling operations are being executed by UOS Drilling.
If a geothermal resource is confirmed and the parameters are positive, the plan is to construct a geothermal heating plant. This will entail the application for additional funding from the NFOSiGW.
Under the “Access to thermal waters in Poland” program, the NFOSiGW is providing 100% subsidy for exploration work for geothermal resources. Multiple drilling projects have already been initiated as a result of this funding program, with some of the more recent ones in Konskie and Koluszki. A total budget of PLN 708 million (approx. USD 189 million) has been allocated for the program until 2028.
