El Salvador plans to extend geothermal to more than 200 MW

Reported by BN Americas, El Salvador plans an ambitious renewable energy expansion of up to 689 MW throughout 2026 as part of a Master Plan for Renewable Energy Development.

The plan was announced in January 2011 and worked on with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

While Hydro and Concentrated solar power seem to be a key focus, geothermal is believed to be able to add up to 90 MW until 2026 under the plan. This would put the overall installed geothermal power generation capacity in the country to 204 MW.
