Exploration geothermal drilling ongoing in Blonie, Poland

A symbolic launch of the geothermal drilling work in the town of Blonie in the Masovian Voivodeship in Poland was held on the 1st week of December 2025. The event was considered symbolic as drilling had already been ongoing for early November, and the well had already reached a depth of 1169 meters.

A day after the ceremony, drilling reached the top of the target aquifer in the Lower Cretaceous formations at a depth of 1264.30 meters. According to drilling contractor UOS Drilling, the next steps would be to take geophysical measurements at the borehole, and run and cement the pipes. Once drilling is completed, testing will then be underway to determine the flowrate, temperature, and mineral content of the thermal waters.

The commune of Blonie was one of ten sites that had been selected in late 2024 to receive funding for geothermal exploration under the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW). Of the total PLN 133 million made available during the funding round, nearly PLN 13 million was allocated to Blonie.

Zenon Reszka, the Mayor of Blonie, had expressed the aspirations of using geothermal waters for heating purposes in the commune. The Mayor is also considering geothermal applications for recreational purposes, particularly at the nearby Bajka Park sports complex.
