France pushes forward with green agenda
After much debate, the National Assembly has passed a new green energy bill that will cut “emissions, boost renewables and create 100.000 jobs in green energy sector”
European news state that France has passed a very ambitious new legislation aiming to reduce carbon emissions and boost renewables.
According to Tidal Energy Today, the bill includes the following.
- Cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 from 1990 levels,
- 30% reduction of fossil fuel consumption by 2030 compared to 2012,
- Increase the share of renewable energy to 32% in final energy consumption by 2030,
- Increase the electricity production from renewables by 40% by 2030,
- Diversify electricity generation mix, and reduce nuclear power’s share in the energy mix to 50% by 2025.
The same source says that this is not only good for the environment, but will also create 100.000 jobs.
