German Geothermal Association launches geothermal video series
Bundesverband Geothermie has released a series of videos featuring important players in the geothermal industry tackling the great potential of geothermal.
Bundesverband Geothermie (BVG), the geothermal association of Germany, has launched a five-part video series highlighting the potential of geothermal energy and the role that it can play in the energy transition. The videos (in German) feature four important players in the industry, with each one discussing a different aspect of geothermal energy.

- Leonard Thien from Fraunhofer IEG and Managing Director of geoENERGIE Konzept GmbH on near-surface geothermal energy;
- Prof. Dr. Inga Moeck, Professor for Applied Geothermal and Geohydraulics at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and Head of the Geothermal and Information Systems at the Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (LIAG) on the scientific perspective on geothermal and its potential;
- Katarina Klaffs, Managing Director at Erdwerk GmbH, on the largely untapped potential of deep geothermal energy in Germany; and
- Helge-Uve Braun, Managing Director of Technology at Stadtwerke München and President of BVG on the geothermal success story of Munich.
In late 2022, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) of Germany set an ambitious goal of 10 TWh of geothermal output from medium-depth to deep resources by 2030. This will correspond to at least 100 additional geothermal and a ten-fold increase from current feed-in to heating grids from geothermal resources.
