Green Tech starts work on geothermal-heated greenhouse complex in Romania

Geothermal company Green Tech International S.A. has announced that it has started work on the development of the largest hydroponic greenhouses complex in Romania which will be supplied with geothermal energy. The project is being carried out by subsidiary Horti Green Invest S.A.

The initial work will cover 10 hectares of greenhouses, but the company plans to develop at least 50 hectares of geothermal-heated hydroponic greenhouses over the next 5 years, thus increasing its presence in the sustainable agriculture sector.

The company has also stated that they will be investing in the rehabilitation of existing geothermal wells in the area and in the modernization of a thermal power plant to supply heat to the greenhouses.

“We are well positioned to capitalize on our geothermal resources and generate value in complementary sectors with high growth potential. Our strategy focuses on investments in synergistic industries such as sustainable agriculture, where geothermal energy provides a major competitive advantage due to lower costs and supply stability,” said Dragos Gavriluta, COO of Green Tech International.

“The project will position Green Tech International among the top three greenhouse vegetable producers in Romania.”
