During a recent visit to Mongolia, Iceland’s Ambassador to the country (based in China), Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson highlighted the great role geothermal energy has played in Iceland to move from coal fired heating to the clean heating provided by geothermal energy.
With international activities of Icelandic players, e.g. in China, there are opportunities in Mongolia as well. So far only few studies on geothermal resources have been conducted according to Deputy Minister of Energy of Mongolia, T. Gantulga, but there is interest in exploring the options of using geothermal resources.
The training of Mongolian specialists in Iceland was discussed.
