Iceland GeoSurvey (ÍSOR) and Icelandic industrial and technical services firm HD industrial and technical services companies have agreed to provide technical support for Dominica’s first 10 MW geothermal power plant. The work strengthens the island’s efforts to replace diesel-based electricity with renewable generation.
The partnership with Dominica Geothermal Development Company Ltd. covers commissioning, operations support, and scientific assessment of the geothermal reservoir.
Technical support for plant commissioning and operations
HD will provide specialists for plant commissioning, operations, and maintenance. ÍSOR will oversee resource evaluation, including analysis of drilling data and monitoring the reservoir’s response once production begins.
ÍSOR has worked in Dominica since 2010 on drilling oversight and resource studies, including assessment of seven geothermal wells in Roseau Valley.
A previous update indicated that commissioning of the geothermal power plant had started in December 2025, and that commercial operations is expected to start by March 2026.
A key step in Dominica’s energy transition
The 10 MW facility is expected to supply stable baseload power to the national grid and reduce dependence on imported fuels. It forms part of Dominica’s wider plan to expand renewable energy and strengthen energy security.
One external assessment suggests the plant could provide electricity for around 23,000 homes, with financing supported by the Caribbean Development Bank.
Icelandic expertise in global geothermal development
The involvement of ÍSOR and HD highlights the continued export of Icelandic geothermal know-how to emerging markets. The companies expect their combined operational and scientific capabilities to support a smooth transition into the plant’s operational phase.
