Iceland’s National Energy Authority has issued a production permit for Landsvirkjun´s Theistareykir project. The permit covers the production of up to 100 MW for this project in the Northeast of Iceland.
At the same time, the authority issued a usage permit for the use of groundwater for the planned geothermal power plant and the usage permit for geothermal heat for the project.
The permit has set some requirements on the allowable draw-down and what to do if production does not prove to be in line with projections.
The permit is given for 60 years unless some key things are changing and the usage has no negative impact on the heat resources or the groundwater.
