Lava creeps onto the site of the Puna Geothermal Plant on Hawaii’s Big Island

As reported this morning from Hawaii, lava has now been creeping onto the site of the Puna geothermal power plant on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Molten lava from the various fissures to the south of the plant have now crept (Monday, 21 May 2018) onto the site and workers have now rushed to the site to shut down the plant.

Crews on site, so CNBC, have worked into the night to cap the 11th and final well of the plant … lava from an open fissure has now flowed 100-200 yards (or 180 to 27o meters) from the nearest well pad.

We will report when we learn more.
