According to a local news paper in the Philippines, Members of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCII) expressed their support on the proposal of Aboitiz Power Renewables Inc. to conduct an exploration of geothermal resources in Davao region.
DCCCII believes that Davao City in particular and Mindanao “badly needs additional electric power supply to support the requirements not only of the business sector but also of the community as a whole.” DCCCII also recognized that a geothermal power plant is said to be “self-sustaining, renewable, and less pollutive, and therefore poses less threat to the environment than other conventional power generating plants.”
Then same source says that Aboitiz will take 5 years until the plant is operational and only after local governments give the green-light, as was also reported by ThinkGeoEnergy last week.
