Mexico is planning a new geothermal power plant, Los Humeros II with 50 MW capacity in the northern state of Puebla, so the country’s Secretary of Energy.
Currently, Mexico ranks number three in installed geothermal power generation capacity after the United States and the Philippines. The country has several geothermal power plants in Baja California, Coahuila, Puebla, Michoacan and Jalisco.
The new plant Los Sumeros in the state of Puebla is expected to start operating in May 2012 and is a join project by Mexican federation and the state of Puebla. Following “the expected completion of the Los Humeros II Phase B plant, the Phase A and Phase B plants will cost-effectively produce more than 400 GWh of electricity, enough to provide clean, renewable baseload electrical power to some 100,000 local homes and businesses.”
