New geothermal field discovered in Kolaka, Sulawesi in Indonesia

Local news report that a new geothermal field has been discovered near nickel mines in the district of Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi Province in Indonesia.

This is reported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Indonesia. The Ministry conducted a survey that showed that there is geothermal potential in addition to nickel and non metal minerals.

“The reserve could be developed to generate electricity such as in geothermal power plants in West Java,” the ministry spokesperson said

He dismissed fears of volcanic disaster in the province especially in the regency of Kolaka, saying there is no such danger as in North Sulawesi.
