Raising awareness for geothermal direct use in British Columbia, Canada

Geoscience BC, a government driven earth science service for the Province of British Columbia in Canada has just released a new report on educational and community engagement work undertaken following the release of the Direct-Use Geothermal Roadmap in June 2016 (Geoscience BC Report 2016-07).

The original report contained practical guidelines for communities on geothermal surface exploration, land acquisition and permitting, drilling and testing wells required for the design and development of direct-use geothermal resources in BC.

The release of this new report coincides with a BC Economic Development Division webinar “Geothermal: Heating up Rural Economic Development” that was held earlier this week. The Direct-use Geothermal Resources in British Columbia project was jointly funded by Geoscience BC and the BC government’s ICE Fund.

Direct-use Geothermal Resources in British Columbia: Follow-up Project by Tuya Terra Geo Corp

Geoscience BC Report 2017-07 presents the results of a follow-up project designed to carry out recommendations from Geoscience BC Report 2016-07, which included raising awareness of Direct-use development possibilities in BC and interacting closely with communities (including First Nations) to provide guidance as to the value and variety of Direct-use geothermal applications. The report documents the work that was completed and proposes recommendations based on the results of this follow-up project.
