Tender – Geothermal Drilling Services under new risk mitigation scheme in Mexico
Under the new geothermal risk mitigation scheme, an international public tender has been launched for the provision of drilling services for geothermal wells to a depth of 3,500 meters.
The Mexican parties to the new “Generic Risk Transfer and Financing Program” announced in July this year, have launched an information website, which provides details about a planned tender process.
The program, that has been developed to help initiate geothermal development through drilling of exploratory wells and the development of geothermal areas with permit or concession in force granted by SENER (Ministry of Energy in Mexico) was developed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through the Clean Technologies Fund (CTF), in conjunction with NAFIN, SENER and INEEL.
The Geothermal Well Drilling Services will be assigned through the International Public Bid CE-018T0K001-E151-2018, to the company that meets the technical and financial requirements at the lowest unit cost per meter drilled. Under the program a call for developers will be issued for companies or consortiums that demonstrate financial technical capacity are summoned, that have the required permits and represent a competitive commercial development plan.

- Reception of proposals – August 30, 2018
- Tentative date for decision – October 1, 2018
- Signature of the Contract (tentative) – November 2018
- Start of services – First half of 2019
