Three geothermal exploration areas in Bitlis, Türkiye going up for tender

The Bitlis Provincial Special Administration’s Provincial Council is re-tendering three geothermal resource exploration license areas located in the Adilcevaz district of Bitlis in Türkiye. These areas have been previously subject to relinquishment requests and will be re-offered to investors through an open bidding process.

Geothermal resource exploration license areas numbered ARA.13.00.2021.JEO.1, ARA.13.00.2021.JEO.2 and ARA.13.00.2021.JEO.3, owned by the Provincial Special Administration, will be tendered under the State Tender Law No. 2886. The three sites and their corresponding prices are as follows:

• A base tender price of 209,175 TL has been determined for the 2,865.90-hectare exploration area located within the boundaries of Çanakyayla Village in Adilcevaz district.
• The tender will be held for a 4,800-hectare area located within the boundaries of Yukarisüphan Village with an estimated value of 350,339 TL, and for a 3,250-hectare area located in Asagisüphan Village with an estimated value of 237,208 TL.

The auctions will be held on March 26, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM in the Bitlis Provincial Special Administration Provincial Council meeting hall. The auction will be conducted using the open bidding method.

Bitlis and its surroundings, with their volcanic structure and hot springs, have previously been the subject of various studies and news reports regarding their geothermal potential .
