UK-Iceland Energy Task Force to establish feasibility of geothermal power interconnector

Following his visit to Iceland, British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced the establishment of a task-force that will be examining the feasibility of an electrical interconnector between the UK and Iceland. The UK-Iceland Energy Task Force will be examining the feasibility of the interconnector and is expected to report on its findings in six months in the spring of 2016.

The interconnector could allow the UK to tap into clean geothermal power for its growing energy demand. The multi-billion British pound project, so news from the UK, would establish a long-term source of renewable providing greater energy security for Britain. The lack of power generation capacity and non-baseload wind capacity are representing a threat of power blackouts.
