We have reported about the unique Chena Hot Springs Resort near Fairbanks in Alaska before. An interesting showcase on the impact geothermal energy can have for small communities, and here for a tourist destination.
The owner of the resort, Bernie Karl has been incredibly creative in developing a unique set up that utilises geothermal energy not only for power generation but also for heating.
In a recent piece in the Alaska Dispatch News, Bernie Karl describes Chena Hot Springs being in the middle of a 20-year development plan, which already includes a geothermal plant that began operating in 2006. It creates enough electricity to power the entire resort.
