In preparation of the large GeoPower and GeoHeat conference to take place next week in Amsterdam, Green Power Conferences recently held a webinar.
The webinar on November 19, 2013, looked into how geothermal is competing with other renewable and non-renewable technologies.
The prevailing issue with exploiting geothermal resources lies in higher development costs and a marginally higher risk profile. Industry debate suggests that the risk profile of a geothermal project needs to be reduced to a similar level of solar and wind, and to mitigate the complexities of exploratory drilling. Suggestions include the need for lobbying to encourage risk reduction and realistic cost-cutting measures.
Is this possible and even with advanced technology, who is willing to take the risk?
